VFD'S  What are (VFD) Variable Frequency Drives ?

A Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) is is a type of motor controller used in electro-mechanical drive systems to regulate the speed and torque of AC Electric Motors.

It accomplishes this by adjusting the frequency and voltage of the power being supplied to the connected AC motor. VFDs also have the capacity to control ramping up of an AC motor when starting for a smooth start-up or to prevent heavy loads from straining AC motors on start-up. They can also control the ramp-down of the motor when stopping. VFDs improve motor efficiency, lower starting currents and maintenance costs and prevent water hammer damage.

VFDs are AC Motor Systems driving pumps in water treatment plants by regulating water flow, conveyor belts, compressors, fans, servo systems, power plants for frequency regulation, robotics for speed and torque control, CNC machine systems and VFD-fed welding machines.

Motor Soft Starter

We know the importance of   motor starting solutions and   that is why we offer only the   finest in AC Drive Technology

Variable Frequency Drives are an integral part of Industrial Electro-Mechanical systems.

Fan systems, compressors and pumps can all be made more energy efficient when coupled with high efficiency motors and variable frequency drives.

We service and install all manufactures   of Variable Frequency Drives, and we

also fully understand the mechanical   equipment served by the drives.

If you’re looking for a reputable company with a proven history of providing quality repair for DC Drive Systems, you’ve found it!

Electromechanex, LLC DC Drive Services has the experience to get your defective drive running like new again quickly and economically. Our repair process starts with the receipt of your parts and by conducting multiple tests which are an integral part of  determining performance, and providing insight to the repair team, and ends with our experts taking all the proper precautions when shipping the item back to you. A repair would typically include checking the motor drive and terminals for substandard connections which can be caused by anything from heat cycles and mechanical vibration to reusing or over-tightening torque screws. Next we dismantle the drive and perform cleaning all of the internal components and ensure that all internal components are free from debris and contaminant ingress. Testing of the electronic components to determine fault location and the probable cause of the failure. Defective components were identified and replaced with new or premium-grade parts exceeding original specifications. Components near failure were also be replaced to ensure lasting operation and prevent future issues. A final quality control inspection was performed to ensure all required tests and procedures were completed before the unit is released.

Electromechanex, LLC works with customers throughout the region to identify the best possible motor drives and controls solution that will maximize the efficiency of a customer’s application. An electric motor that is matched with a properly designed motor control or drive will experience a longer motor life, less downtime and improved energy and cost savings. These results are why our technicians work with you to find the right Soft Start or VFD for your electric motor setup. The complexity and variety of VFDs means it’s critical to pair the right VFD with the right electric motor application. Our analysis includes ensuring your motor is rated for VFD use; determining cable length; filter requirements, open or closed loop, inputs and outputs.

Using a soft starter or variable frequency drive temporarily reduces the load and torque as well as the inrush current of the motor during start up. This reduces the mechanical stress on the motor and shaft, and reduces the electrodynamic forces on the attached power cables and electrical distribution network, extending the lifespan of the system.

Machine drives, primarily consisting of electric motors, pumps, and fans, account for about 50% of the manufacturing sector’s electric power consumption. The right drive system can reduce usage and energy savings quickly translate to dollars. EMX works step-by-step to provide you with the best variable frequency drive for your electric motor needs. We can even check for Stray Currents after installation to ensure that the motor is properly protected and does not suffer premature bearing failure. They also reduce thermal and mechanical motor and component stresses during start-up. When compared to traditional across the line starting, VFDs and soft starters offer a considerable power reduction, lowering energy consumption and monthly utility bills and VFDs allow for controlled speed of a motor.

Soft Start Controls

Electric motors incur a tremendous amount of stress during start-up process. Soft start devices, as the name indicates, help ease this stress, thereby reducing the wear and tear. While soft starters may not be as common as VFDs, there are many instances when a soft starter may be the right choice for your motor. Applications with pumps, conveyors and fans are prime candidates for soft start devices because of their characteristic stop-start nature. Soft starters minimize the start-up stress by slowly ramping up the voltage instead of blasting a static motor with a large energy jolt.
